NEGS
NEGS has a strong tradition of nurturing top-level athletes across various sporting arenas, ensuring every student’s sporting interests are supported. However, we consider the most important philosophy is that all students should be involved and encouraged to try a variety of sports and we provide them with plenty of opportunities to do this.
We offer a wide variety of summer and winter sporting activities including swimming, netball, hockey, rugby, tennis, athletics, shooting, rowing, dance, basketball and many more. For students who want to represent the school at a higher level we offer specialist coaches and committed team managers, holding close connections with local and New South Wales sporting associations for students who wish to represent the school and external teams at state and national competitions.
Our girls are highly sought after in representative teams due to their commitment and team spirit. As a member of the Independent Girls Schools Sports Association (IGSSA), students can represent NEGS in competition against the state’s best independent schools in swimming, athletics, cross country, netball and hockey.
The sporting program at NEGS is compulsory for all students and they are required to select a sport to commit to and compete in every term. This helps promote physical health, commitment and discipline, as well as growing a sense of comradery and team spirit which is attained on the field, pitch and court.
The NEGS Talented Athlete Program is an elite training and coaching program developed for gifted and talented students in Equestrian, Hockey, Rugby and Netball, empowering them to pursue their sporting dreams. These students are supported through mentoring, training and education from nationally accredited and industry experienced coaches.
In 2018 NEGS was proud to announce three new high performance programs to compliment our existing Equestrian Program in Hockey, Netball and Rugby. With the support of state based sporting bodies Netball NSW, Rugby NSW and Hockey NSW, and our state of the art sporting fields under construction, NEGS is continuing to cement its position as a regional hub of sporting excellence.
In November we announced that we would begin work on the NEGS Regional Sporting Complex, a new $1.5 million multi-purpose facility that will benefit not only the students but the entire New England community.
This will see a state-of-the-art synthetic hockey field built to Federation of International Hockey standards, a rugby field, athletics track, nine netball courts and two tennis courts resurfaced with artificial turf.
The sporting complex will be among the best multi-sport venues in the region, providing NEGS athletes with a cutting edge facility for daily training and competition.
